Nearly 100 of Crawley’s accountants, bankers and lawyers have raised over £7,000 in a unique fundraising triathlon in support of Sussex Community Foundation.
Nine teams competed against each other in the first ever Crawathlon at Virgin Active Healthclub on Monday, December 1, to raise money for the Foundation to distribute to a range of community projects in the town.
For the Olympic style event, each team needed to complete a 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim; a 21.09 km (13.1) mile run on treadmills and a 90 km (56 mile) cycle on stationary bikes, with team members selecting one event each. Top team, the Tryathletes from Thomas Eggar, completed the event in 272 minutes - just over four and half hours. Top fundraising team was Fortis Bank, raising £1760.
Sarah Beauvallet, Regional Director of Fortis Bank, came up with the idea and she hopes the Crawathlon will become an annual fixture. She said: “I thought it would be a great opportunity for our business community to contribute funds towards local charities in the town in which we all work, get fit in preparation for the Xmas festivities , and network with like-minded professionals.”
Sarah and the other event organisers have selected the Sussex Community Foundation as a partner for the distribution of the funds that the event will raise.
“I’m delighted that so many companies have taken up the challenge – times may be tough but people are still keen to do something to help those facing even harder times. Sussex Community Foundation is the ideal way for us to make sure our money will go where it’s needed most.”
