Southern Water is hosting the Super Irish Race day at Fontwell Park racecourse, near Arundel on Saturday 2 October 2010.

Guests of Sussex Community Foundation had an exclusive opportunity to ‘delve into the archives’ at an event hosted by Special Collections at the University of Sussex.
Amongst the rare and fascinating items on display were Repton’s book, Designs for the Pavilion at Brighton’ (1808) on which John Nash based his final designs for the building, one of Virginia Woolf’s notebooks, and some of Rudyard Kipling’s original sketches for the ‘Just so’ stories.
Simon Fanshawe, Chair of the University Council said, ‘there was a real buzz in the room. People felt privileged to be seeing such special items, many with a direct link to the varied characters and history of Sussex’.
Also on display were diaries and photos from the Mass-Observation Archive, contributed by ordinary people from 1937 which builds up a particularly rich picture of life during the Second World War. Material from the more recent Mass Observation project collected since 1981 added a contemporary slant to the collection.
