Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
“Corporate social responsibility is about how we manage our social and environmental impacts as part of our day to day business, in order to earn the trust of our stakeholders”
BAA Gatwick
For today’s companies, Corporate Social Responsibility is increasingly recognised as a central part of business planning and corporate strategy. It should recognise the impacts of the company’s operations on customers, the environment and the local community.
These impacts may be positive, such as increased employment; or negative, such as pollution caused by road transport. Creative analysis and management of these issues can help both reduce costs, and reduce negative impacts.
An effective Corporate Social Responsibility approach can help to build loyal support from stakeholders. In a recent survey three out of ten people said they would recommend a product or business based on its responsible behaviour, and nine out of ten workers said that their employers’ corporate responsibility policy was a key factor in job satisfaction.
One way of supporting your local community is by setting up a grants programme aimed at local community and voluntary sector groups.
You may have already considered this but are worried about the high levels of administration involved and how to target your money most effectively at the causes you want to support.
Alternatively you may already run a grants scheme but would like to explore other ways of managing the scheme.
Sussex Community Foundation provides a flexible and cost-effective way of running a local grants programme.
If your donation is above £10,000, you can set up a Named Fund in your company name. You select the criteria, which could include geographic area, target groups or field of interest, tailored to your company’s priorities.
Sussex Community Foundation will help publicise your programme, assess applications and manage grant panels. The Foundation will help promote all grants made from your company fund and monitor organisations that have been awarded a grant to ensure the money is used effectively.
Every grant given out by your fund will carry your name and logo, helping ensure good awareness of your community support.
You can get involved as much or as little as you wish in deciding where the money goes. For example some companies establish employee grant making panels.
