The majority of grants will be in the region of £1,000 to £3,000 per year. In exceptional cases larger grant applications may be considered. Small applications of less than £1,000 are encouraged.
The aim of this fund is to support community organisations in Sussex and western Kent. Professor and Mrs Hans Rausing have supported a wide range of charitable causes in Sussex and Kent for some years, and wish to maintain a broad approach to their grant making. Applications for projects that benefit communities in the region of Wadhurst are particularly encouraged.
Professor and Mrs Hans Rausing are particularly interested in projects that address the "root causes" of local issues rather than individual problems. For example they wish to support projects such as credit unions or micro-loans which can stimulate a community to alleviate their own poverty. The Fund may support any charitable project including, but not exclusively the following areas:
The Marit and Hans Rausing Fund was set up in 2006 as a flow-through fund, through which all donations were distributed to local groups within a year.
Professor & Mrs Rausing have decided that their donations over the next three years will be invested in a Grassroots Endowment Fund, to generate a sustainable income for Sussex Community groups. In the short term there will be less money available for Grant making but we hope this will be outweighed by the long term benefits of growing the Endowment Fund.
Grants will be awarded once per year, and will include the following areas:
* People with disabilities
* Social Welfare
* Cultural heritage and the arts
* Children and Young People
* Medical and health related causes
* Education
* The environment, nature conservation
* Religious causes
