Southern Water is hosting the Super Irish Race day at Fontwell Park racecourse, near Arundel on Saturday 2 October 2010.

A £10,000 donation has been presented to the Sussex Community Foundation by Southern Water.
The money was raised at Southern Water’s charity race day at Fontwell Park Racecourse, West Sussex. It will go towards the Foundation’s Grassroots Endowment Fund, which will provide enduring support for volunteer-led community groups across Sussex.
Donations to the Grassroots Fund are currently being matched by the government, so this gift will be worth £20,000 to the charity.
Southern Water Director of Customer Services, Kym Salmon presented a cheque to the charity’s Chairman John Peel at Durrington High School, which is the base for the Worthing D & D Basketball Club, a young people’s basketball club funded by the Foundation.
Kym said: “We’re delighted to be able to present this cheque to the Sussex Community Foundation. The charity carries out valuable work which benefits so many in the community.
“This donation is particularly special as Southern Water staff chose the Sussex Community Foundation as a charity they would like to support.”
John Peel said, “We would like to thank Southern Water and everyone involved in the Race Day for their fantastic support. There are many small voluntary groups working in the heart of our communities in Sussex. This donation will help them to continue their vital work.”
Also present at the presentation was Rod Edwards, Senior Vice President (Business Development) at RR Donnelley, a Southern Water supplier which sponsored the Sussex Community Foundation race at Fontwell.
The charity race day, which took place in October, raised £70,000 which has been split between seven charities chosen by Southern Water staff. The other charities were: Cancer Research UK, Chestnut Tree House, AAIR (Asthma, Allergy and Inflammation Research), RNLI, WaterAid and NSPCC.
