Southern Water is hosting the Super Irish Race day at Fontwell Park racecourse, near Arundel on Saturday 2 October 2010.

As part of a nationwide series of visits to witness how Government funding is working, the Minister met with volunteers and service beneficiaries at the Working 50 Plus group at Cornerstone Community Centre in Hove.
The group provides opportunities for people aged 50+ who have recently been made redundant, to listen to guest speakers and attend courses in IT, CV writing and confidence building. They received £1,500 from the Government Grassroots Grants scheme to provide extra services and help more people.
In Brighton and Hove alone over £133,688 has been awarded in Grassroots Grants since the three year scheme launched in 2008.
Angela Smith said:
“I am delighted to be in Brighton and Hove to witness how Government funding and grants are being used to deliver vital support to people during the downturn.
”I’ve been really impressed both with the commitment of these organsations, and how they are using the funding to get real results in the community.
Philip Carpenter, Chairman of Working50Plus said
“It is with thanks to the Grassroots Grant, that has enabled us to inform others of our group and made it possible to increase our level of activities for the sustainability of Working50plus, and hopefully to encourage people over 50 to join us”.
